Santa Clothes

Probably the coolest thing I have ever done was to be invited to participate in a yearly event called "Santa Clothes". This event is hosted by Target and the local Rotary Club. Every year the local schools choose elementry aged children to go shopping at Target. The children are choosen by teachers and principals from each school. Each child is paired up with an adult on a Saturday morning, near Christmas time and given $110 from the Rotary Club and a 10% off coupon from Target. I really feel that Target can contribute a bigger coupon but 10% is better than none at all! The child and adult meet at 7:00 a.m. inside Target where the Rotary Club gives the adult the money and the child a bag of goodies that normally consist of shampoo, deodorant, luffa sponge and hair care products. The adult takes the child shopping and is supposed to focus on purchasing the child clothes, hence the name "Santa Clothes". The adult is given the money and coupon. The adult pays the difference if they go over the $110 - 10% off coupon. Last year my daughter spent $375 on her child, she is very giving(with mom and dad's money! LOL!) This is a very rewarding event for us. I like that the parents of the children must wait at the front of the store. The child normally comes prepared with a list of things they need and a the size. Receipts are collected as we check out so parents can not return the items for cash. After check out the children stop at an area the schools have set up to get free books. It's an awsome day for each child that participates. The Rotary Club is constantly raising more money in hopes that they can have the funds for even more children to be given the gift of Santa Clothes.

The joy of turn 13

13 is a magical mumber, it is also a number one will not find when getting on an elevator at a casino. I dont remember turning 13 but I know I did. Growning up as a teen was difficult times for us so we didn't get Birthday Party's. When my kids turned 13 it was a different story. Our kids have lived a different life than my husband and I. We have Birthday Party's for all the major age numbers. When our kids turned 13, 16, 18 and 21 we had big party's. We hired the Lyon's Club each time and had "Casino Night". The Lyon's Club brought Black jack Tables, Roulette and a Craps Table. The kids would earn play money then at the end of the night they would trade it to the dealers for tickets. The tickets would go into a container and the more tickets they had, the more chances they would have for their number to be drawn for a prize. The most fun part is the prizes. We would go to the florist and have money put into about 25 latex helium balloons in different amounts of $1, $5, $10, and $20. We would buy extra prizes and dingy prizes as well. Once the ticket is drawn, my hubby would allow the child to choose a balloon then he would try to negotiate with the child to not take the balloon, kind of like "Let's Make A Deal". We made sure that every child received a gift. When the children were playing the games, it was so quiet. It is a great way to teach them math!! Everyone alway's showed up and they alway's knew they would have good food and great fun with lots of amazing people.

My worst travel fears #3

I love to travel and really don't have many travel fears, but one concern that I have is "Mother Nature". The weather can play a big part in travel time. If I had an important meeting that I needed to attend, or even an event, the weather would play a big part in my timing. I like to travel early just incase but coming home can be just as an important factor when traveling. I become anxious sometimes and just want to get home as fast as I can. I remember one time sitting in an airplane on the runway at JFK in New York, for more than 4 hours awaiting our turn to take off. We were only number 73 in line on the runway! I didn't realize that their were weather problems while I was waiting to board. That was no fun. I can't control the weather but it is still a concern from time to time. I guess I am very blessed that my concerns are for the most part small!

My worst travel fears #2

Another travel fear that I have is.... Call me crazy!!!!, I am alway's afraid that I forgot to pay a utility bill and one of my utilitie's will be SHUT OFF when I return, or the dogs are in the house and the babysitter(for my little kiddle's(yorkie's) can't open up the garage with the garage door opener! O.K., stop laughing!!! It is a real fear.. I away's double and triple check to make sure the utilitie's are payed before I leave. Most peoples fears are probably about loosing luggage or something. I never care about that to much, unless I were traveling abroad, then one should alway's carry on a change of clothing.

Ok, I'm sure that I am not alone in the "I want to go on vacation but what if ???? happends when I'm gone!" I am alway's worried that something is going to happen when I am far away and I can't fix it. I think all moms have this fear or maybe I am just afraid of everything!! What are your travel fears?

I LOVE MY LIDDLE KIDDLE'S and ABOUT ME

My Yorkie's are my babies since my children have yet to give me grandchildren. I talk to them like they are little kids, hence the name Liddle Kiddle's. Pebble's, Rock, Granite and Jewel are their names. I also have a Chihuahua that thinks she is a Yorky and her name is Tinkerbell. My children are both in college. My son Zaccary attends Valparaiso Universary in Indiana. He is a Mechanical Engineer Major and just finished his last year of football at Valpo. He is recently married to Elizabeth Cron. My daughter Alexandria attends Hope International University. She plays softball for HIU and is just miles from Disneyland. Life is rough Alex!! My husband is a Mechanical Engineer. Believe it or not, he designs the machines that package the ketchup and other condiments that you get at your local restaurants and fastfood joints. We have been a pair for 31 years and it is wonderful! I am a local Realtor and have been at my office for over 15 years. The So Cal. market is better than it was in 2005, but it is still very slow. If all these "healthy" banks would release their forclosure inventory it would help but since the government is allowing them to "cook the books" I really doubt that I will see massive inventory for a couple more years... I am new to blogging and I hope it is a good experience..
